USA Today has dubbed Kentucky’s Sweet 16 the greatest high school basketball tournament in America. And as of late, The Scott County Cardinals in Georgetown, Ky. have assembled some of the toughest teams in the tournament. Between 1995 and 2009, no Kentucky high school basketball team has won more often than the Scott County. The Cardinals have bested their regional competition and earned a trip to Rupp Arena seven times, more than any other high school in Kentucky. They have reached five state Final Fours. They have brought home two state championships. And they have graduated two Mr. Basketballs, the coveted title given to the state’s best player. "For some of the players, it’s a way out. For others, it’s a way of life. In Scott County, it’s just what you do." writes author Keith O'Brien whose upcoming book explores the phenomenon that is high school basketball in Kentucky. This a collection of photos of Scott County's 2010 quest to win the last, great American basketball tournament.
